How to quote as a gardener or landscaper

10 August 2026

Garden work is easy to underquote because the costs hide in the boring bits: waste, access, and weather. A good quote surfaces them.

Waste disposal is a line item, not a surprise

Green waste costs real money to tip. Quote it separately — "Waste removal and disposal — £60" — and customers accept it instantly. Bury it in your labour price and you either eat it or look expensive.

Describe the finish, not just the task

"Tidy the borders" means different things to you and the customer. "Weed and edge all borders, prune roses, remove waste" is the same job with no argument at the end. The quote is where expectations get set — use it.

One-off vs regular work

For a fortnightly maintenance visit, put the recurring price and what's included in writing once, and get it signed once. When the customer later asks why the hedge cut cost extra, the answer is already in the document.

Weather clauses save relationships

One line: "Dates may shift with weather; I'll confirm the day before." It costs nothing and turns a cancelled Tuesday into a rescheduled one instead of a complaint.

QuoteNod lets you build and send that quote from the garden itself — phone, link, signature, PDF both ways. Free for 14 days, then £12 a month.
