How to quote as an electrician: pricing jobs that pass inspection

14 August 2026

Electrical quotes carry two things other trades don't: certification, and materials prices that move monthly. Both belong in the quote.

Price the certificate in, and say so

An EICR or a Part P notification isn't an extra — it's the product. Put it on its own line: "Testing, certification and building-control notification — £120". Customers comparing you against an uncertified handyman suddenly understand the difference.

Quote materials at today's price, with a shelf life

Cable prices move. Give your quote an expiry — 14 or 30 days — and write it down. If they come back in three months, you re-quote with a clear conscience.

Stage payments on bigger jobs

For a rewire, asking for the lot on completion is a cash-flow trap. A written schedule works: deposit on booking, a payment at first fix, balance at certification. Put the stages in the quote so the customer signs up to the schedule, not just the total.

Keep a signed record

If a job is ever disputed — or an insurer asks questions — the document that matters is the one the customer signed before work started. A screenshot of a WhatsApp message is a poor substitute for a signed quote with your terms attached.

QuoteNod gives you that: itemised quote, your terms plus standard contract protections, signed on the customer's phone, PDF for both sides. Free for 14 days.
